These incidents have happened over the last several months, victims have received phone calls from someone claiming to be from the Canadian Revenue Agency, another government agency, or a police officer. Victims are told they owe outstanding government taxes, or they have warrants for their arrest and the only way to clear the situation is to put large sums of money into a Bitcoin machine. Bitcoin machines would never be asked as used for payment from any government agency. The scammers are very persistent and convincing, in some cases they may even have some of your personal information. If you receive a call like this it is important to stay calm, talk to someone you trust or call the Regina Police Service.
